Programs at the Robert O. Anderson School and Graduate School of Management are designed to meet the need for top-quality management education among public, private and not-for-profit businesses.
The mission of the entrepreneurship program at the Anderson School is to help in the creation of the next generation of entrepreneurs in New Mexico as well as support the success of our current entrepreneurs. The program is at the undergraduate level as a concentration at the bachelor of Business Administration program but collaborates with the graduate Management of Technology (MOT) graduate program to support entrepreneurship at all levels. The newly designed PhD program in MOT will expand these offerings further with many of our PhD students performing research into entrepreneurship areas.
The program builds upon the core areas of management such as accounting, organizational behavior, marketing, finance and operations by adding specialized courses in new venture creation, entrepreneurial finance, business planning, professional selling, managing small business as well as other specialized courses in other business areas that might contribute to the student's career path. Our students follow a clinical approach where they learn from established theories in their courses but add to that knowledge through "hands-on" experience of working with real-life projects of other entrepreneurial activities such as market assessment, business plan development, competitor analysis, financial projections and financing options.
The program has a lot of experience in working with students and outside community businesses to create the atmosphere of success through collaboration on these real-life projects. This is the part that is essential in building programs that are excellent academically but provide the community with new resources to help it in its high paying job and wealth creation through entrepreneurship.
